USPOULTRY Opens Preproposal Submissions for 2027 Spring Research Competition; Deadline Nov. 2
The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) and the USPOULTRY Foundation are accepting research preproposals for the 2027 Spring Research Competition. Colleges, universities and research institutions are invited to submit preproposals by Nov. 2.
USPOULTRY research funding supports projects that address broad industry needs and deliver practical, science-based benefits to the poultry and egg industries, including animal welfare; breeder management for turkeys and broilers; meat bird management; commercial egg production; poultry health and disease; environmental management; food safety; hatchery management; nutrition; processing; and employee safety and health. Research focused primarily on the development, validation or advancement of a specific commercial product or technology, as well as projects receiving substantial commercial support, may be less likely to receive funding.
Applicants should submit a one-page synopsis outlining the proposed research project and its potential benefit to the industry. USPOULTRY’s Foundation Research Advisory Committee, composed of poultry industry professionals, will evaluate the preproposals and invite full proposals for projects that demonstrate relevance to current industry needs and research priorities. Final funding decisions for the 2027 Spring Research Competition will be announced in April 2027.
USPOULTRY updates its research priorities every two years to reflect evolving challenges and opportunities across the poultry and egg industries. The complete 2026–2028 Research Priorities are available on the USPOULTRY website. Innovative research concepts outside the identified priorities are also encouraged and will be considered based on demonstrated industry need.
Since the program’s inception, USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation have invested more than $39 million in research grants supporting projects at more than 50 universities and federal and state facilities.
For detailed submission guidelines and to review the 2026–2028 Research Priorities, visit the USPOULTRY website.
